I once sat in a restaurant with some friends and heard a loud gasp from one of them as I ordered a Coke. Come to find out-it’s rather alarming to discover that a vegetarian, meditating yoga teacher might actually drink a soda! I had to laugh. Seriously, coke is the most incredible poison that one could put into their body and well, sometimes, life calls for such a self damaging act of spiritual defiance. Am I right? You bet your self-proclaimed health nut ass I am!

So I did an experiment last year, nope nobody knew about it-not even me really, until just this morning. I wrote little posts and blogs on Facebook, medium and my website. Guess which ones got the most attention? The ones that made me sound like I was a spiritual Goddess that had just emerged from the Earth. Well, I am actually-but that’s not the point I wanted to make today.

My point is, one can not be spiritual without first being a fucking mess! One can not walk a spiritual path truthfully without actually knowing and experiencing what lies off the comfort of that path. The reason I was able to write all those insightful posts and blogs-because THEY JUST CAME TO ME! They were realizations or lessons that I had just burst through. I fell down but let you know when I got back up.

And what happens once you’ve drudged through all those trenches of life and you climb the mountains to get to the castle of enlightenment at the top? You slide back down.

Releasing things that no longer serve you, means actually letting them go and for me personally-it means forgetting all about the struggle of the lessons that they taught me. Well, if I forgot the lesson, guess what the great big universe has got for me? ANOTHER LESSON! WHYYYYYYYYY?????? -Because we live and learn in order to share and teach others how to do it. We find and try our damnedest to walk a spiritual path in order to be able to invite others along with us, if they want. (Yes, I just figured that out RIGHT NOW as I type)

Becoming enlightened or touched by nature and finding love in all people and life in all things creates a softness to our spirit. It creates a light that shines through our eyes and makes people believe that we have found some sort of peace. We have. Some people will want that peace too and so they will come around and try to learn. Some of us will begin to lose that peace and we might jump into action to hang on to it or we might sit back and watch it leave-mistaking it for something that will return on it’s own. We all ebb and flow with our own experiences and with each others. We are all looking for guides at times and at other times, feeling confident in our steps and not caring about what anyone else is doing. It’s all supposed to be that way.

I think.

So, before you judge a yogi for having a soda or for someone explaining their recent meditation as “a fucking waste’…remember, we are all just doing what we feel like doing, when we want to do it. We are all spiritual, just at different points of our journey-and stepping outside of what YOUR ideal box you carry an image of ME in does not make me any less spiritual.

When we find ourselves sliding down the side of a mountain on our ass-lets grab a partner to walk back up with. You never really know WHO will be the teacher and who will be the student-or how many times those roles will flip flop.

Do it because it gives makes you feel alive, it makes you feel like part of something so much bigger than we can even understand…and stop doing ALL THINGS just for the sake of being able to hashtag SpiritualAF and try just being a #human complete with character flaws and mistakes. Revel in those moments and those lessons and be grateful for everyone and everything around you.

Did that sound like a great big mess of thoughts? Perfect. That’s how I’m filtering through the day today. Cheers and Namaste’ YO!
